Our Story

Hello Beautiful Souls!

Thanks for being here.

We’re Rita and Charlotte, two wives from London. It all started when we met each other on a lesbian dating app in 2014, we spoke about our dreams of travelling the world and breaking free of our normal routines.

Well, we bloody did it!

We started travelling the following year in 2015, we flew to India for 3 months and then did a working holiday visa in Australia for a year.

That was just the start of our adventure, from sleeping in the Thar Desert beneath a million stars to swimming under the moonlight in the Philippines where the shimmering plankton guided the way, building a bed in the back of our car and road tripping from London to Lapland. Here our love for the northern lights began and we’ve been obsessed ever since. We lived in Iceland for two years, we explored the entire country in our self converted Subaru, which we named Ragnar. These magical lands will always have a piece of our hearts.

We’ve always loved a road trip, there’s something so freeing about hitting the open road, blasting tunes and singing at the top of our lungs whilst we take in the beautiful views and nothing beats that feeling of seeing new lands and surroundings. Low and behold in 2022 we bought a second hand VW Crafter and converted it into a tiny home, it took 6 months of blood, sweat and tears but it was all worth it, we named her Silvie and we love our home on wheels!

After the build we ventured off in Silvie and drove from London to Morocco, where the Sahara desert stole our hearts, we then drove through Europe to the Arctic Circle in Norway, there’s nothing quite like the midnight sun, its endless daylight is great for exploring Norway’s epic nature and avoiding the crowds.

We however decided to leave Silvie in England whilst we travel the Americas (It was out of our budget to ship her). This trip started in Colorado and we’ve been slowly working our way down through Central and South America.

It’s been 10 years since we started our journey and we’re now married and still finding ourselves through travel, we currently work remotely, so no more seasonal jobs for us. We’re so privileged to be able to lead this lifestyle and we’re still falling deeply in love with this magical planet and each other every day.

After a decade of travel and work, we decided to create Nomadic Wives as a base to start a community in sharing travel knowledge and helping inspire others to step into the unknown, we’ll share our best tips on travelling on a budget, navigating full time travel and work, travelling as a queer couple and van life- if we can convert a van with no experience, so can you!

We hope to open minds to alternative lifestyles and break down the expectations of society and what we’re told our lives should look like. We’re only on this planet for a short time and for us travelling was life altering and opened our hearts and minds in ways we never imagined.

We’re going to lay it all out here on Nomadic Wives, while we’re still figuring out a balance between exploration, working, adventuring, keeping our mental and physical health in check and being kind to ourselves as life unravels.

Are you ready for a change? Do you have an urge to try something new and to delve into the unknown? We’ve got you, so take a deep breath and let’s go!
