Thailand Digital Nomad Visa

Thailand is one of the most popular places in the world to live and work, and its fantastic that the Thai government has recently introduced a Digital Nomad Visa called DTV.

Prior to this visa being introduced, it was extremely difficult to obtain a working visa to work long term in Thailand, but now with the DVT it is now easier than ever to make your dreams a reality.

The Visa is ideal for professionals, freelancers and remote workers who seek the freedom of not being tied down to one place and free to move around, exploring the country. The visa also permits you to bring your spouse and children, it even gives you access to medical care, we will discuss this more later.

Let’s jump into some of the important requirements for this visa!

Who is Eligible?

Anyone over the age of 20 can apply and you must have a minimum financed amount of 500,000 THB which is the equivalent of around 13,600 USD in your account to apply.

The visa is valid for 6 months and can be extended every 6 months up to 5 years

Because the visa was only recently announced, the Thai Government hasn’t set an exact date for when it will come into effect, but it’s expected to be in the next couple of months as Thailand is keen to start attracting more foreign workers.

What are the Main Requirements for the Digital Nomad Visa?

On the official Thai e visa website it states the following requirements:

  • Be at least 20 years old
  • Provide evidence you work remotely
  • Prove you have $13,600 USD in your account
  • Clean criminal record

As the details of this visa are still being amended, here’s some of the requirements you will need in the case of applying for other similar visas:

Full Healthcare insurance

Although it has been mentioned that on a DVT Visa, applicants will be entitled to access medical care, we always recommend having your own private medical insurance to cover things like emergency dental care or repatriation costs etc.

Clean Criminal Record

As this hasn’t been specifically mentioned yet, most visas do require this so it is likely you will have to provide a criminal check from your resident country.

Proof of Financial Income

You must have a minimum financed amount of 500,000 THB which is the equivalent of around $13,600 USD, in your account to make the application.

The visa is valid for 6 months and can be extended every 6 months up to 5 years. These requirements must be shown every time you extend your visa.

How much does it Cost?

The cost of the Thailand Digital Nomad Visa is around 10,000 THB (approximately $275 USD). Once you have completed the application, the payment will be required.

After completing all of the above, you’ll most likely have to wait a couple of weeks for It to be approved.
